Our mission.

The mission of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. In other words, our mission at Maple Grove United Methodist Church is to be world-transforming difference-makers by focusing on loving God and loving our Neighbor—all of our neighbors, no exceptions!
 
We believe that by following the Way of Jesus, who noticed and had compassion on the least, the lonely, and the lost—those who live among the world’s poor, sick, oppressed, alienated, and marginalized—we can make a real difference in our community, and in our world!
 
We believe there are four primary ways we can help build God’s beloved community: when we offer WELCOME to our neighbor and the stranger, when we engage in authentic WORSHIP together, when we connect with others to GROW in our journey of faith, and when we GIVE to and SERVE the least, the lonely and the lost.

WELCOME

In Matthew 22, Jesus was asked which of the commandments was most important. He answered, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You must love your neighbor as you love yourself.”

We believe Mister Rogers had it right in his children’s television program when he invited each viewer to “Be My Neighbor.” The “open minds, open hearts and open doors” promise of our church is a promise of welcome. We think you’re special just the way you are, and we hope you’ll join us as we welcome you and others to be part of our growing “neighborhood” - God’s kingdom of love.

WORSHIP 

In worship, we gather together as parts of a whole, as a community, in order to offer thanks and praise for the ways in which we have experienced God’s grace and mercy in our lives, to remind one another that God’s grace and mercy will be with us in all circumstances, and to be filled up with God’s love, mercy and grace so that we can go out into the world to offer that same love, mercy and grace to others.

We believe worship is authentic when it makes room for God’s Spirit to be present through a variety of music, liturgy and rituals, as well as for a variety of expressions—whether joyous or sorrowful, whether doubtful or filled with assurance, whether offering thanks or seeking forgiveness.

GROW

Relationships are really at the heart of Christian Community—our relationship with God, and our relationships with others. The opportunities for connecting with others for encouragement and support as we each learn to center our lives on loving God and loving our neighbor are endless!

Gather with others for Coffee Talk or meet with the United Methodist Women or the Men's Group. Find a connecting point, make new friends, and grow in your journey of faith!

GIVE/SERVE

Giving to and serving others are ways we become the “hands and feet” of Jesus in the world. Each month, we lift up different ways for you to serve the community, either through food pantries, community centers, disaster relief or other need-based opportunities.

One ongoing ministry is our Prayer Shawl ministry, in which people hand-knit shawls as a tangible way for those going through illness or other times of struggle to feel the presence and love of God wrapped around them.
